Graduate Associate Position Description

 

 

The Section on Workforce Development and Education at the Ohio State University is looking for two Graduate Teaching Assistants for the 2009-10 school year. These two positions provide teaching and administrative support for the undergraduate and graduate programs in Workforce Development and Education in the College of Education and Human Ecology at the Ohio State University. A short description of each position is included.

 

Position One: Graduate Teaching Assistant for Corporate Training and Development: This GTA will assist in the delivery of undergraduate courses for the specialization in Corporate Training and Development.  The GTA will also provide some administrative support to the section head.

 

Position Two: Graduate Teaching Assistant for Business Education and Career and Technical Education: This GTA will supervise field placements at local high schools for those students seeking business education and/or career and technical education teacher licensure. The individual will also assist with administrative oversight of licensure files.

Summary of Position:  This GTA will assist in the delivery of undergraduate courses for the specialization in Corporate Training and Development.  The GTA will also provide some administrative support to the section head.

 

Responsibilities:
 
The GTA will instruct one undergraduate course per quarter in the CT&D undergraduate program on the topics of designing training programs, delivering training programs, and measuring and evaluating training outcomes.  The GTA will be supported by a faculty member in terms of the content and delivery of the course material.  

 

The individual also will share responsibility in the following in the following administrative duties:

·      Planning, scheduling and announcing WDE courses 

·      Maintaining the WDE student database of active and inactive students

·      Coordinating the graduate applicant review process

·      Coordinating the WDE student research conference and the Friday 914 seminars

·      Coordinating the preparation of the WDE newsletter

 

Qualifications:  Applicants should: 1) be a full-time Ph.D. student in WDE; 2) have completed academic courses in human resource development; 3) have experience and interest in instructing adult students through stand-up lectures and discussions, online modules, or small-group coaching and feedback sessions; and, 4) possess an understanding of practices in corporate training settings.

Summary of Position:  This GTA will supervise field placements at local high schools for those students seeking business education and/or career and technical education teacher licensure. GTA will also assist with administrative oversight of licensure files.

 

Responsibilities:  Interaction with local school teachers, administrators and other personnel will be required. Some local travel will be required (reimbursed). Position will also require administrative duties associated with the maintenance of licensure files and related documents, and for conducting on-campus meetings with students as part of the field experiences. Other duties related to the WDE section’s teacher licensure programs may be assigned.

 

Qualifications:  Applicant should be a full-time Ph.D. student enrolled in a program associated with teacher licensure, preferably in business education and/or career and technical education, but other areas may be considered. Preference will be given to those individuals with teaching experience at the high school level, and who hold a valid teaching license in Ohio or another state. Familiarity with Ohio’s teacher licensure requirements will be a plus. Computer skills (Microsoft Office) are required, as is the ability to work independently.
